Global experts and delegates attending the Dubai Congress on Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Medicine (DCAAAM) in November 2009 hailed the region as the major force for change in the burgeoning anti-aging maket.

25 years ago (a quarter of a century) we started this adventure called “Progress in Clinical Pacing” organizing an International Symposium with the aim to create a biannual meeting point for all the doctors involved in the field of cardiac pacing and electrophysiology worldwide.

Since then much work was done to increase the International visibility and attendance in the Congress which is now a well established fixed appointment in Rome to discuss all the major clinical and technological advances in the field of cardiac arrhythmias.

Progress in Clinical Pacing started in 1984 with 300 physicians and it is now attended by more than 2000 experts coming from more than 40 countries.

Approximately 300 allied professionals attend furthermore the 3 day course especially organized to update them on all the most recent discoveries in this field.

Furthermore hundreds of original scientific contributions are accepted to be presented in many free paper or poster sessions.

During the last five years many new technical tools for invasive electrophysiology or for brady and tachy pacing together with lots of new scientific data coming from randomized clinical trials, have been presented to the community of experts in cardiac arrhythmias and will certainly be objects of presentations and discussions during the various scientific sessions of the next Edition of Progress in Clinical Pacing 2010.

The Symposium is also expanding towards those countries which are increasing day by day their activities in this field and are warmly invited to share with us their first experiences and to investigate how to improve their clinical practice.

Coming from this 25 years experience and with its actual visibility “Progress in Clinical Pacing” has all the characteristics to remain a leading International scientific event in the area of cardiac arrhythmias management.

Biological contamination of water systems continues to present significant challenges to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries. Bacteria, in particular, are well adapted to survival in purified water systems. Their presence leads to the contamination of process equipment, raw materials, and—in some cases—product adulteration leading to recalls. Effective control of bioburden in water systems requires an understanding of those factors that promote microbial growth and biofilm formation. The presence of biofilms associated with wetted surfaces gives rise to both bioburden and associated endotoxin (pyrogen) contamination.

This two-day workshop will focus on the genesis, detection, prevention, and treatment of biofilms in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical fluid-handling systems.

We have great pleasure in inviting you to participate in the 13th World Congress on Cancers of the Skin (WCCS) that will be held in Madrid, the capital of Spain, from April 7-10, 2010. Six years ago, the delegates of the Skin Cancer Foundation had to choose the venue for the 9th World Congress, which was then held in Seville (Spain). The preparations for the Congress were undertaken by the Spanish Association of Skin Cancer (ASECCUT) together with the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV), and was a great success. Now that the World Congress will be held in Spain for a second time, the ASECCUT and the AEDV made a proposal to the Skin Cancer Foundation for the 13th WCCS to be held in Madrid, which has become a consolidated congress venue. Experience has proven that the congresses held in Madrid have always fulfilled their participants’ expectations. The recent Centennial Congress of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology is an example. In a year of changes and difficulties, such as this one, the fact that this Congress has once again returned to Spain, also has a general and very relevant symbolic meaning. The World Congress on Cancers of the Skin in Madrid has been made possible thanks to the magnificent work done by our colleagues in Madrid to further the growth and improvement of our Association.

The Local Organising Committee is very proud to host dermatologists, oncologists, epidemiologists, physicians and all the world’s best professionals who work in the field of skin cancer. The venue of the 13th WCCS will be the Hotel Meliá Castilla, which is already well-known to many of you from the various congresses held there by the International Society of Dermatologic Surgery and other international Symposia. Its location and many conference rooms make it ideally suited for this type of Congress. In general lines, the scientific programme has been designed to reflect the ongoing endeavour of the ASECCUT and AEDV to make available to their members the latest developments in dermatological science and it will surely be welcomed by those attending the congress. The programme will feature plenary sessions, symposia and satellite symposia that will provide ample opportunities to get up to date on epidemiology, diagnostics and therapeutic developments relating to Skin Cancers. AD-Springfield March 24 – 27, 2010

Please join us in Geneva for three exciting days of presentations by invited speakers as well as late-breaking oral presentations and posters.

The bi-annual International Geneva/Springfield Symposium on Advances in Alzheimer Therapy distinguishes itself from other scientific meetings of this kind for two main characteristics.

First, is the only international meeting that focuses entirely on the pharmacological therapy of Alzheimer Disease with particular emphasis on the discovery of new drugs. The theme includes: drug development at different preclinical and clinical stages, results of clinical trials and pharmaco-economics implications.

Second, the meeting is organized jointly by an American (Southern Illinois University, School of Medicine in Springfield Illinois, USA) and a European (University of Geneva, Medical School Dept. of Rehabilitation and Geriatrics) University.

Our next meeting which is planned to take place in Geneva, March 24-27, 2010, will be the 11th of the series. The last one was in Hong Kong in 2008 with 1200 participants.

We expect that the results of several new clinical trials, presently in progress in the whole world, will be communicated at the 2010 meeting. The meeting is also unique insofar as bringing together basic and clinical experts of this area from academia as well as from the most important pharmaceutical companies. We would like to underline the fact that several drugs presently used in the treatment of Alzheimer Disease were first presented at various Springfield meetings .The Springfield meeting which spans over 3 days, includes monothematic Symposia, communications on New Therapies and posters.

The conference will be useful to specialists, mainly neurologists, psychiatrists and geriatricians as well to any one caring for Alzheimer patients, in order to understand the pharmacological approach to the disease.

   This international Symposium will focus on the diagnosis and management of chronic and acute diseases affecting the pulmonary circulation and right ventricle.  The main idea of the Forum is to bring together a group of globally recognized experts with clinicians from EU interested in diseases affecting pulmonary circulation. Special effort has been already made to assure representation in the audience all EU countries. We are happy to welcome experts in pulmonary circulation again in Prague, since the last meeting there was very successful.

   The Forum will be a three full-day meeting (from Wednesday 2nd June to Saturday 5th June). Clarion Congress Hotel Prague has been selected and secured for the Venue of the Forum.

   It will be endorsed by the ESC WG on PC and RV function and a request for endorsement has been applied to the European Respiratory Society. In addition, a request for EBAC credits has been applied and hopefully accepted.

   We expect at least 400 – 550 participants which will follow the lectures in a main 550-seat lecture room and in another 150-seat meeting room which will host parallel sessions and workshops. Optionally two additional parallel lines with 150 seats are available.  

   In addition to clinical issues, a special Session presenting different national solutions to most important problems related to providing care and reimbursement of treatments in orphan diseases, such as pulmonary arterial hypertension is planned.

   Media coverage of the Forum will be provided, including International Press Conference on burning problems related to venous thromboembolism and pulmonary hypertension.
